This recipe comes from a popular New England based cookie called Hermits. This variation (Rocks) is similar as it is a brown sugar based cookie with lots of raisins, nuts and spices. Soft and plump this cookie is a great go-to cookie that everyone will enjoy. This version is the "Rocks" cookie which has less dried fruit and spices than the traditional Hermit cookie. Enjoy! Ingredients:
1 cup shortening like Crisco Butter Flavor 1 1/2 cups brown sugar (I use dark but either works) 3 eggs 3 cups Flour 1 tsp. baking soda 1/2 tsp. salt 2 tsp. cinnamon 1 tsp cloves 1 cup seedless raisins 1 cup chopped nuts (I usually use walnuts but any nut will do!) Directions:
To make the cookies more like the traditional Hermit, add ginger and nutmeg to the cookie dough and add currants, dried cranberries or other dried fruit. Enjoy!
